Breakouts in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s

So many clients come to me completely baffled as to why they are breaking out. “I am not a teenager anymore, why am I all of a sudden breaking out?” Acne is not just a teenage problem. We can actually get acne at any age, even up to the 60’s. From my experience, it is more common for males to have teenage acne and then clear up some time in their 20’s. Women tend to have acne in their 20’s and beyond. The culprit….HORMONES! Ladies, our hormones fluctuate from month to month and even year to year, secreting different hormones at different times in our cycle. As if it were not hard enough to have periods and grow humans inside us, now we have acne to battle.

The genes you were born with could also be the cause. For some women it could also be the type of makeup, moisturizer and cosmetics they are using.

So, if you struggle with hormonal acne, hereditary acne or acne cosmetica (due to make up and other cosmetics) don’t despair. You can still have clear, healthy skin. It takes commitment, time, and also an understanding of acne. There is no cure, therefore you need to continue to use products that will keep the acne at bay.
